My passion for helping people function and perform at their best grew from my personal experience as an injured professional ballet dancer when I was young. As I tried to balance treatment and recovery time with what was expected of me physically, I experienced frustration, impatience and anger. Ultimately my injuries did not resolve, culminating in my retirement from the ballet company and the profession. My fascination with wellness, anatomy, and functional performance led me to pursue a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Sydney - graduating in 1994. The understanding of functional movement and biomechanics came naturally to me after all those years in the ballet studio, as did the understanding of how to relate to and support someone who has to manage commitments around their pain and injury.
The activity of ballet pivoted to the pursuit of all kinds of sports. Like most people, I've gone on to manage pain and injury at different stages of my life. As a retired athlete and mum of teenagers, navigating family life, professional life, and a changing body - all in a changing world - I can relate to anyone who feels that being able to get through their day comfortably and to get out and do the activity that feels good - at any age and stage - isn't asking too much.
I thoroughly enjoy the outdoors, especially trail running, tennis, hiking, swimming and skiing, and I continue to be inspired by the creative energy of the performing arts - I love music and the theatre. I feel empowered by strength training in the gym and find physical and mindful balance in Pilates and yoga.
